Congress MP Manish Tewari on Friday issued an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, calling for a debate on the "border situation and the huge trade deficit with China." His letter to the Secretary-General of Lok Sabha emphasized the "ongoing border clashes between India and China" since 2019.
In his notice, Tewari stated, "I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house to discuss a definite matter of urgent importance, namely, the border situation and trade deficit with China." Tewari further elaborated on the continued tensions, mentioning reports of Chinese troops blocking access to patrolling points in Eastern Ladakh and the construction of a 400-meter bridge by China to swiftly move troops between the North and South banks of Pangong Lake.
The Congress MP urged the government to provide comprehensive details on efforts to resolve the border disputes and protect India's territorial integrity. He emphasized the trade concerns, pointing out that in 2023-24, India's trade deficit with China surpassed USD 85 billion. He concluded by requesting detailed information from the government on their strategies to address these vital issues.
