Mohanlal Visits Landslide-Affected Wayanad, Lauds Army's Rescue Efforts

Actor and Lieutenant Colonel Mohanlal visited the landslide-hit village of Mundakkai in Kerala's Wayanad, lauding the rescue operations. He donated Rs 25 lakh to the CM's Distress Relief Fund and met with the Army personnel. The death toll stands at 308, with ongoing rescue operations.

Actor and Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army, Mohanlal, visited the landslide-afflicted village of Mundakkai in Kerala's Wayanad on Saturday, dressed in his Army uniform. He met with Army personnel involved in rescue operations and praised their efforts.

Through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mohanlal commended the 122 Infantry Battalion, TA Madras, who lead the relief missions. He also donated Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. As per the latest update, the landslide death toll stands at 308, with Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirming the numbers.

Rescue teams have recovered 215 bodies and 143 body parts, identifying 148 remains so far. Currently, 82 people are receiving treatment in various hospitals across Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram. The Kerala government has laid out specific guidelines for cremations under this disaster scenario.

Prominent figures such as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Department Minister OR Kelu, MLA T Siddique, and District Collector DR Meghasree paid their respects. Residents expressed their grief and fear, sharing harrowing experiences. The Army, alongside local authorities, is actively engaged in constructing infrastructure to aid search and rescue operations.

Air Marshal B Manikantan and Brigadier Salil conducted aerial surveys on Saturday to assess the affected regions. Responding to the Kerala government's request, advanced search equipment from Northern Command and Delhi will be airlifted shortly. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised the heroic efforts of the rescue teams, highlighting Kerala's enduring resilience in the face of tragedy.
