The newly completed Aranpur-Jagargunda road in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district marks a historic step towards reviving the region of Jagargunda as Asia's largest tamarind market. This monumental achievement was made possible due to the persistent efforts of security forces and the state government's support, said Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P while speaking to ANI.
'Previously, Jagargunda was known as the biggest market in Asia for tamarind sales, but it lost its prominence due to rising Naxal activities,' stated Sundarraj P, emphasizing the region's lost glory. An action plan has been implemented to connect Jagargunda from all cardinal points, thereby busting its reputation as a Maoist hideout.
The completion of this road is expected to generate employment opportunities, improve connectivity, and boost local economic activities. The IG highlighted the extensive operations carried out by the CRPF and police, mentioning significant sacrifices made by security personnel, including the discovery of 56 IEDs and the loss of 26 jawans ensuring the project's safety. CRPF DIG Vikas Kataria noted that the road's construction would not only facilitate anti-Naxal operations but also drive comprehensive regional development.
