The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a chargesheet against Shankar Yadav, a crucial associate of incarcerated gangster Aman Sahu, in a case involving shooting, extortion, and arson at a coal mine in Latehar, Jharkhand, according to an official statement. The accused, Yadav, hails from Bhagalpur, Bihar, and faces a slew of charges under the IPC, UA(P) Act, and Arms Act. The case, originally registered by Balumath local police in December 2020, was transferred to the NIA in March 2021.
Shankar Yadav is the 25th individual to be chargesheeted in this case. He was instrumental in assisting Aman Sahu by creating shell companies to channel extortion proceeds. NIA's investigation revealed that a search conducted at Yadav's premises in February 2024 led to the seizure of Rs 1.30 crore in cash. The charges stem from a criminal conspiracy for extortion and disrupting mining operations at the Tetariyakhad coal mine, orchestrated by Sahu and his associate, gangster Sujit Sinha, among others.
The NIA uncovered that Sahu's gang was involved in multiple high-profile crimes in Jharkhand, including attacks on police officers and jail staff. Businessmen and contractors were Sahu's primary targets, and his gang maintained ties with splinter Naxal groups and other criminal outfits outside Jharkhand to facilitate their illegal activities.
