The National Commission for Women (NCW) and CyberPeace Foundation launched the Digital Shakti Center on Monday to address cyber crimes against women. Chairperson Rekha Sharma led the inauguration at the NCW premises.
The center aims to raise awareness about cyber crimes targeting women, offering technical support for registering and resolving complaints. With the surge in cyber crimes like identity theft and cyberstalking, this initiative empowers women to protect themselves online. The Digital Shakti campaign, started in 2018, has equipped millions of women with necessary digital safety tools.
Chairperson Sharma highlighted the rise in cyber crime cases in India, noting an increase from 52,974 in 2021 to 65,893 in 2022. The NCW registered 608 complaints related to cyber crimes against women in 2023, accounting for 2.2 percent of total complaints. As of August 1, 2024, 386 complaints have been registered, making up 2.5 percent of total cases. The 5th phase of the Digital Shakti campaign continues this mission.
