Amid ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has called for a swift restoration of peace, urging the Indian government to ensure the safety of Indians stranded in the crisis-hit nation. 'I hope the peace will be restored fast; the kind of visuals coming in from Bangladesh is a matter of tension, like the statue of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which has been destroyed,' she noted.

'If the unstable situation continues, then the country and region will suffer,' Chaturvedi added. She highlighted that Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the presence of 19,000 Indians in Bangladesh, emphasizing the government's responsibility to facilitate their safe return to India.

Congress MP KC Venugopal echoed similar concerns about Indian students and minorities in Bangladesh, stating that the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation. In response, Air India operated a special charter flight from Dhaka to Delhi, safely transporting 199 passengers and six infants.

Bangladesh is currently facing a fluid political landscape, marked by the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid mounting protests. These demonstrations, initially driven by student demands to abolish the government job quota system, have escalated into widespread anti-government actions.

In the aftermath, President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the national parliament and established an interim administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The decision, as reported by the Dhaka Tribune, resulted from consultations with various stakeholders, including the heads of Bangladesh's armed forces, political leaders, and civil society representatives.

Furthermore, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been released from jail, with the president’s office announcing the decision to free those detained during the recent student-led protests. The process of releasing detainees from various cases related to the protests is already underway.
