Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, narrowly missing out on defending his gold title. His top throw of 89.45 meters fell short of the gold-winning 92.97 meters thrown by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who established a new Olympic record.
Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) MP Chandra Shekhar Azad praised Chopra, calling him the "golden boy" of India due to his consistent record of excellence. "I was seeing his match last night. I congratulate Neeraj bhai and the countrymen. He will inspire the youth of the nation," Azad stated.
BJP MP Suresh Gopi and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram also recognized Chopra's remarkable achievement. Gopi termed the silver-win a "glory for India," while Chidambaram underscored the difficulty of winning back-to-back Olympic medals. Neeraj Chopra is now the second Indian male athlete to earn two Olympic medals in an individual event post-independence. Despite a strong qualification round, Chopra's 89.45-meter throw was his second-best but not enough to reclaim gold. Grenada's Anderson Peters secured the bronze with an 88.54-meter throw.
