Heavy rainfall lashed parts of the national capital, leading the weather office to issue a 'yellow' warning on Monday. Scenes from Udyog Bhawan depict commuters traversing rainwater-filled streets, equipped with raincoats and umbrellas.
The relentless downpour has resulted in severe waterlogging and traffic jams citywide, disrupting daily life. Residents can be seen navigating flooded streets as the rain continues unabated.
Tragedy struck earlier as a seven-year-old boy drowned in a waterlogged park in New Delhi's Rohini area on Saturday evening. According to Delhi Police, the boy fell into a pond formed due to the rainwater in Sector-20.
Gurugram also experienced heavy rain, leading to considerable waterlogging and traffic chaos, severely affecting areas like the Gurugram-Delhi Expressway. Sunday saw similar heavy downpours in Delhi, causing extensive road and street flooding.
Haryana Minister Aseem Goyal reviewed the situation in Ambala after the region received over 220 mm of rain within 24 hours. Goyal noted that while cities usually withstand up to 50 mm of rain, the current situation is unprecedented. Departments are actively working to manage the crisis, and new project tenders are expected to help alleviate future issues.
According to the IMD, Haryana is expected to see isolated heavy rainfall until August 14, with similar conditions likely in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and other northern states in the coming days.
