The Mysuru royal family has challenged the Karnataka government’s attempt to create the Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority, obtaining a stay from the High Court. Yeduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MP and scion of the royal family, emphasized the importance of adhering to tradition, stating that the practices must continue without interruption.
Karnataka Minister for Cooperation, KN Rajanna, responded swiftly, dismissing the royal family's stance, suggesting ongoing disputes exist in multiple courts about royal properties. He mentioned similar cases in the Supreme Court regarding the Bengaluru Palace.
Karnataka BJP leader CT Ravi indicated the party would issue a formal statement after reviewing the details, stressing their respect for the royal family and public sentiments. Pramoda Devi Wodeyar, the queen mother, criticized the government for trying to take control of family-owned temples, calling the act unconstitutional. She referenced historical documents listing the properties as royal family assets, which were recognized by the state government in 1972.
