Puducherry Ensures Steady Power Supply Amid Rising Demand

Home and Electricity Minister A Namassivayam announced in the assembly that Puducherry does not face a power shortage. Despite rising demand, the Union Territory receives adequate power supply from central power establishments and its own Power Corporation in Karaikal. Plans are underway to fill vacancies in the Electricity Department.

Home and Electricity Minister A Namassivayam informed the assembly on Tuesday that there is no power shortage in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

During discussions on demands for grants to the electricity department, Namassivayam stated that Puducherry's power requirements have risen from 510 MW to 540 MW due to rapid economic development. However, central power establishments and the government-owned Power Corporation in Karaikal are providing sufficient power.

Namassivayam also revealed plans to address the 850 vacancies out of 2,192 technical posts in the Department of Electricity, proposing to hire junior engineers and construction helpers. Additionally, the government is considering offering life and health insurance to mitigate increased workloads on current staff.
