Tensions escalated in Hazra, Kolkata, as police clashed with supporters of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) SUCI (C) amid protests following a 12-hour general strike. This strike was in response to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The protesters were detained and subsequently arrested upon staging a demonstration at Hazra Intersection.

Across the nation, doctors and representatives from various medical organizations held protests. In Rajasthan, medical services were largely disrupted with a complete shutdown announced by resident doctors at Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS) Medical College. A rally is planned from Dhanvantari OPD to Statue Circle in Jaipur. The shutdown significantly impacted emergency services, postponing routine operations for several days. Similarly, in Patna, doctors at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science vowed to continue their protests until justice is served.

Statements from AIIMS Delhi and junior doctors at AIIMS Mangalagiri emphasized the broader implications of the crime, highlighting the need for a Central Protection Act for healthcare workers. They condemned the attack as a crime against women and humanity, demanding a transparent investigation and adequate compensation for the victim's family. The medical community's united front aims to ensure swift action and assurances from the government.
