RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday condemned the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, calling the incident barbaric and demanding justice. 'Justice should be served to the doctors who are on strike,' Yadav stated in response to the incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The horrific crime, which took place on August 9, has triggered nationwide protests by the medical community. Doctors are demanding justice for the victim and highlighting the urgent need for stronger safety measures for women in the workplace. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) announced a 24-hour strike on Saturday, involving all modern medicine doctors in response to the national outrage.

Doctors from the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi organized a protest march on campus, carrying posters and chanting 'We want justice.' IMA Secretary General Dr. Anil Kumar J Nayak expressed hope that the government will implement the Central Protection Act (CPA) they are seeking.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju echoed these concerns, calling the case a significant societal issue and stressing the need for better security for medical staff and the general public. 'The safety of medical personnel is a nationwide issue,' Rijiju stated, addressing reporters in Bhubaneshwar.
