In a significant development, Punjab's Faridkot Police have arrested the primary accused, Gulab Singh, in connection with a major heroin seizure. A senior police official confirmed the arrest on Saturday, detailing the efforts as part of a broader campaign to make Punjab drug-free.
The arrest of Singh marks a breakthrough in the state's ongoing battle against narco smuggling. According to the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, Singh's capture is expected to severely disrupt the smuggling network. The arrest follows a year after the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Fazilka busted two major cross-border drug smuggling rackets.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Faridkot, Dr Pragya Jain, highlighted the meticulous technical and human intelligence operation that led to Singh's apprehension. Police teams rounded up Singh at a bus stand in Rupyianwali village. The arrested accused is alleged to have strong ties with Pakistan-based smugglers and has been involved in several criminal activities.
