Equinor's Gullfaks C Shut Down After Well Incident
Norwegian energy company Equinor has shut down its Gullfaks C platform in the North Sea following a well control incident. While the well is stable, output at Gullfaks C remains halted. Gas production at nearby fields will be impacted. Equinor has a 51% stake in the field.
Norwegian energy company Equinor temporarily halted production at its Gullfaks C platform in the North Sea on Sunday, citing a well control issue. As a precaution, some workers were evacuated.
A company spokesman reported that the well is currently stable. It remains unclear when operations might resume at Gullfaks C, although other Gullfaks platforms continue to operate normally.
Gullfaks C, primarily an oil producer, also processes and exports oil and gas from the nearby Tordis field. According to Norway's gas system operator, the Gullfaks field's gas production will decrease by 6.6 million cubic meters per day starting Monday. Equinor holds a 51% stake in the field with partners Petoro, holding 30%, and Austria's OMV, holding 19%.
