Landslide Disrupts Operations at Sikkim's Teesta-V Power Station

A landslide has impacted NHPC's Teesta-V Power Station in Sikkim, affecting key structures. The area is prone to natural subsidence during monsoon. The station, already undergoing restoration after October 2023 flash floods, is currently non-operational.

A portion of NHPC’s Teesta-V Power Station in Sikkim was severely affected by a landslide, the company announced in a Tuesday exchange filing.

The Teesta basin region, prone to natural subsidence and landslides during the monsoon season, faced another incident today. The landslide impacted the tail race tunnel (TRT) outlet structure and the GIS building.

"The TRT Gate hoist structure and part of the GIS building have been affected. The power station, currently non-operational due to restoration efforts from October 2023 flash floods, is undergoing additional repair works," NHPC stated.
