In a decisive step, Assam Police have transferred two vital cases of bomb threats by the banned insurgent group ULFA-Independent to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The cases, originating from Guwahati and Lakhimpur, are part of a broader effort to deploy federal resources and achieve a comprehensive probe.
GP Singh, Director General of Police (DGP) Assam, announced the transfer, highlighting the formation of Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to delve into ULFA-I's activities. He stated that suspected IEDs had been strategically placed across various districts by ULFA, necessitating a coordinated investigative effort by state and federal agencies.
In Guwahati, the investigation is led by the Joint Commissioner of Police, while the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) oversees inquiries in other districts. Significant progress has been made, including the apprehension of four individuals in Sivasagar. DGP Singh expressed confidence in swiftly resolving these cases in collaboration with federal agencies, underscoring the declining influence of ULFA, which he argued is nearing its end after 40 years.
