Border Security Force (BSF) troops in Meghalaya prevented an attempt to smuggle sugar across the international border with Bangladesh, arresting an Indian national in the process. The incident occurred on August 20 in the East Khasi Hills district.
In a significant operation on August 20, 2024, alert BSF Meghalaya troops apprehended one Indian national who was attempting to smuggle sugar to Bangladesh. The accused was intercepted with sugar bags loaded in a Mahindra pickup near the international border in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.
The confiscated sugar and the individual were handed over to Pynursla Police Station for further legal action, according to a BSF Meghalaya press release. Just a day prior, on August 19, BSF officers in the West Jaintia Hills district foiled an infiltration attempt, arresting three Bangladeshi nationals and their three Indian facilitators.
