The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stern warning regarding a "deep depression" over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh, predicting its westward movement to the Saurashtra region and North East Arabian Sea by August 29. The IMD also flagged a 'high flash flood risk' for certain watersheds in East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat within the next 24 hours. Surface runoff and inundation are anticipated in low-lying areas due to sustained heavy rainfall.

Gujarat has been particularly hard-hit, with heavy rains over the past two days inundating multiple regions. Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a telephone call to the state's Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, expressing concern and assuring central government support. Shah emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure timely aid reaches the affected areas.

In response, Gujarat Chief Minister directed an evacuation from low-lying areas to safer locations. Districts like Valsad, Tapi, Navsari, Surat, Narmada, and Panchmahal have borne the brunt of the downpour. Furthermore, the IMD has also issued an orange warning for northeastern districts of Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, and others due to impending heavy rainfall.
