PMJDY: A Decade of Financial Inclusion Milestone

Union Minister Jitendra Singh lauds the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) for becoming a global benchmark in financial inclusion. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the scheme has played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, empowered women, and brought banking services to millions of Indians, including those in remote areas.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday hailed the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) as a global benchmark for financial inclusion, marking its 10th anniversary.

Singh noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the scheme was pivotal in preventing starvation for nearly 80 crore households through seamless direct benefit transfers.

Launched in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PMJDY has revolutionized financial inclusion by offering zero balance bank accounts, free RuPay cards, accident insurance, and overdraft facilities to millions, including 55.6% women account holders.
