China's Aggressive Trade Investigations Into EU Imports Escalate Tensions
China has launched an anti-subsidy investigation into imported dairy products from the EU, following similar probes into pork, brandy, and plastic imports. This comes a day after the EU revised its tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. These actions are intensifying trade tensions between China and the European Union.
China has intensified its trade scrutiny by opening an anti-subsidy probe into dairy products imported from the European Union. This move, announced by China's commerce ministry, targets a variety of cheese, milk, and cream products following a complaint from domestic dairy associations. The probe will look into 20 subsidy schemes across several EU nations.
In June, China's commerce ministry also initiated an anti-dumping investigation into pork imports from the EU. This investigation covers various pork cuts and by-products and was prompted by a complaint from the China Animal Husbandry Association. The EU has been a major pork supplier to China, but other countries may gain market share if restrictions are imposed.
On Thursday, China's commerce ministry revealed it would not impose provisional tariffs on brandy from the EU, despite asserting it was sold below market prices. This decision followed a broader investigation into brandy and other imports amid escalating trade rows.
