The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Delhi has sent a legal notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over Kangana Ranaut's forthcoming film 'Emergency.' The party demands halting its release, citing objectionable depiction of historical events, particularly concerning the Sikh community.
The notice, penned by Paramjit Singh Sarna, President of SAD's Delhi unit, argues that the film's trailer misrepresents historical facts, fostering hatred and social discord. Sarna claims such portrayals are offensive and damaging to Punjab's social fabric and the nation.
Accusing Ranaut of targeting the Sikh community rather than commenting on the Congress party, the notice criticizes the media and political support she receives for distorting history. Sarna emphasizes that these inaccuracies must not be allowed to reach the public.
The notice highlights the significant role of the SAD, led by figures like Sardar Harchand Singh Longowal, in opposing the Emergency imposed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It criticizes the film for ignoring these contributions and portraying the Sikh community negatively.
Advocates Manmohan Singh Narula and Manjeet Singh Chugh, representing SAD, urge the CBFC to exercise its authority and prevent the film's release. They stress distinguishing between freedom of speech and harmful content, warning of legal action if the issue isn't addressed in seven days.
