Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the tributes to former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, commemorating his death anniversary on Saturday. Mukherjee, a towering figure in Indian politics, significantly shaped the country's governance, serving as Union Minister in multiple administrations before being elected as India's 13th President.

On social media platform X, Shah expressed, "My heartfelt tributes to former President of India Dr Pranab Mukherjee Ji on his Punyatithi." Highlighting Mukherjee's extensive career, Shah added, "A political stalwart, a scholar, and an ace administrator, Mukherjee Ji's journey from a humble village in West Bengal to the highest office in the nation stands as an inspiration. His contributions to governance and nation-building are unparalleled."

Born in Mirati, Birbhum District of West Bengal, on December 11, 1935, Mukherjee's roots were deeply intertwined with India's independence struggle, with his father, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, being a noted freedom fighter. Pranab Mukherjee passed away on August 31, 2020, at Delhi's Army Hospital (Research and Referral). In recognition of his outstanding service, he was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
