Train services between Mankhurd and Vashi on Mumbai's Harbour Line were disrupted on Saturday morning following a broken Overhead Electric (OHE) line, according to a statement from the railways. The issue started at Mankhurd station and was reported at 09.30 am, officials said.
Passengers were permitted to use the Transharbour Line during the disruption. 'During this period, passengers were allowed to travel via the Transharbour Line using the same tickets and passes. This arrangement will continue until the OHE fault is resolved,' the Central Railways stated.
The services operated between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Vadala and Vashi-Panvel, while down services between Vadala and Vashi were halted. 'Rectification work on the OHE commenced immediately. Down line services also impacted up-line services,' said the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railways.
Officials confirmed that the fault was fixed and services restored by 9:30 am. OHE lines are crucial for transmitting electrical energy for the smooth operation of train traffic.
On August 8, train services faced similar disruptions between Asangaon and Adgaon on the Kalyan-Kasara section due to a large boulder on the tracks. Authorities restored services after removing the debris.
'Restoration work has concluded and service has started between Asangaon and Adgaon, Kalyan-Kasara section, where a boulder had fallen,' Central Railway reported. The incident impacted trains heading towards CSMT, including the 22224 SAINAGAR SHIRDI-CSMT Vande Bharat Express and others.
