Biju Janta Dal (BJD) leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar on Monday criticized the BJP-led government in Odisha for failing to curb crimes against women. Speaking to ANI, Samantsinghar said, "Since the BJP government was formed in Odisha, expectations of good governance have not been met, with crimes against women increasing."
The BJD leader cited several incidents of alleged sexual assault in Khorda and Bhubaneswar, and highlighted the alleged sexual assault and murder of a minor girl in Balasore. "On August 27, a 10-year-old tribal girl from Balasore was brutally raped and killed," she said. Despite complaints from the family, Samantsinghar alleged that the police took no action, eventually seizing the victim's body four days later.
Samantsinghar also mentioned that a planned visit to Remunda by the Chief Minister was canceled following the incident. "Neither the Chief Minister nor other state cabinet members visited the area," she alleged, accusing the government of trying to cover up the case. Former Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik also criticized the law-and-order situation, emphasizing that such incidents should be brought to the attention of the current Chief Minister, who holds the home portfolio.
