Gujarat Government Boosts Library Services with Historic Expansion
The Gujarat government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched a significant expansion of public libraries, including tribal and rural areas. This initiative follows the 'Vanche Gujarat' campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister. The government aims to foster a culture of reading across the state.

In a historic step, the Gujarat government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has initiated the establishment of government libraries in 50 talukas across 21 districts. This initiative builds on the 'Vanche Gujarat' campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister, aiming to enrich state libraries with scriptures.
Marking 'National Read a Book Day' on September 6, the initiative seeks to promote the joy of reading and encourage more citizens to engage with literature. Special attention is being given to tribal communities, with plans to establish libraries in 14 talukas of 7 tribal districts, ensuring 100 percent benefit from reading services in these areas.
The policy also includes the expansion of subsidized libraries in rural regions of Gujarat. Under CM Patel's guidance, the state aims to open more public libraries to make reading facilities accessible to everyone. This year alone, government taluka libraries will be established, marking an unprecedented move since the state's formation. Additional support includes 100-percent grant-aid exemption from public contribution and increased grant rates for various types of libraries, fostering a competitive environment in library services.
