The Meteorological Office has issued a red alert for eight districts in central Madhya Pradesh, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Rainfall is expected to exceed 204 mm in Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Sehore, and Harda.
'A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over Northeast Madhya Pradesh,' said BS Yadav, Meteorologist at IMD Bhopal. 'In the next 12 hours, it will intensify into a depression, leading to heavy rain in the state.'
In the past 24 hours, Damoh received the highest rainfall of 215mm, followed by Jabalpur with 190mm and Narsinghpur with 178mm. An orange alert has been issued for districts adjacent to those under red alert, with rainfall likely to measure between 115 mm and 204 mm.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for the state's remaining districts. Yadav mentioned that, while the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall will decrease after 24 hours, heavy rainfall will persist. A new system is expected to bring continuous rain for about a week.
For Bhopal, heavy rainfall is expected today, tapering off over the next four days but continuing nonetheless.
