U.S. Stock Index Futures Drop Amid Higher-than-Expected Core Inflation

U.S. stock index futures continued to decline on Wednesday after new data indicated that core inflation rose more than anticipated in August. According to the Labor Department, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.5% annually, just below the 2.6% rise that analysts had expected. On a monthly basis, the CPI's growth of 0.2% aligned with forecasts.

Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI rose by 0.3% monthly, surpassing the forecasted 0.2% rise. Annually, core inflation matched estimates at 3.2%. By 8:33 a.m. ET, U.S. S&P 500 E-minis were down 23.75 points, or 0.43%, Nasdaq 100 E-minis dropped 79.25 points, or 0.42%, and Dow E-minis fell 259 points, or 0.63%.

The unexpected rise in core inflation may prompt concerns about the Federal Reserve's approach to managing inflation and could impact investor sentiment in the coming weeks.
