A total of eight people were rescued and admitted to the hospital after a two-story building collapsed in Karol Bagh area in Delhi on Wednesday morning, according to a senior Delhi Police official. The official noted that more people are believed to be trapped under the debris and a search and rescue operation is ongoing.

DCP Central M Harsh Vardhan reported that at around 9 AM, information about the building collapse was received at Prasad Nagar Police Station from the Bapa Nagar area. An old building of approximately 25 square yards has collapsed. So far, eight individuals have been rescued and sent to the hospital. It is feared that some more may be trapped. Local police, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, and other agencies are executing rescue operations. No fatalities have been confirmed yet. Legal actions will be initiated once the rescue operation concludes, he said.

Local police, along with multiple agencies, are conducting rescue operations. Delhi Chief Minister-designate Atishi has instructed the District Magistrate to provide all possible assistance to the victims. Responding swiftly to the incident, Atishi urged the public to inform the government about any potential risks of similar incidents in the future.

Taking to the microblogging site on X, Atishi expressed, "This incident of house collapse in Karol Bagh area is very tragic. I have ordered the District Magistrate to provide all possible support to the residents and victims, ensure proper treatment for the injured, and investigate the cause of this accident. I have also communicated with the Municipal Corporation Mayor regarding the incident. Considering the heavy rainfall this year, I appeal to all Delhi residents to immediately report any potential construction-related accident to the administration and corporation. The government will provide immediate assistance." (ANI)
