State Governments Empower Biogas Sector to Save Rs 50,000 Crore Annually

The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) highlights the crucial role state governments can play in promoting biogas by offering financial assistance, facilitating easy access to finance, and providing local support mechanisms. State-driven support could save up to Rs 50,000 crore annually through waste management, pollution reduction, and health improvements.

State governments could save up to Rs 50,000 crore annually through strategic support for the biogas sector, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA). IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia emphasized the role of states in reinforcing central initiatives by offering financial incentives and improving local support mechanisms.

Kedia pointed out that state aid could lead to savings in various forms, including waste management, pollution reduction, and health improvements. He cited Uttar Pradesh as an example, where state subsidies effectively complement central government support for biogas projects.

Additionally, Kedia suggested that improving infrastructure, optimizing land use, and ensuring a stable supply of organic waste are critical steps state governments can take to enhance the sector's efficiency and adoption.
