Uttarakhand Plans to Double Power Generation by 2031–32

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (UJVN) aims to double its power generation capacity to over 3,000 MW by 2031–32. The action plan, initiated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, also targets boosting revenue to Rs 3,000 crore. Recent initiatives include hydroelectric projects, concessions for developers, and a green hydrogen plant.

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd has announced an ambitious plan to double its power generation capacity in the next eight years, aiming to increase it from 1,440 MW to more than 3,000 MW by the year 2031-32. This strategic action, directed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, also includes a target to raise revenue from Rs 964 crore to Rs 3,000 crore in the same period, according to UJVN Ltd Managing Director Sandeep Singhal.

Singhal highlighted recent accomplishments including five hydroelectric projects with a combined capacity of 148.5 MW, developed over the past four and a half years. These projects include the 120 MW Vyasi Hydroelectric Project in Dehradun and several smaller ones in Pithoragarh and Rudraprayag.

Efforts are being made to facilitate central and private developers with various concessions to reduce costs, Singhal noted. UJVN has also formed a joint venture with THDC to undertake five new projects. Additionally, innovative technologies such as hydrokinetic turbines and a green hydrogen plant are being explored. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed with Iceland for thermal energy production.
