Delhi CM Atishi Marlena Challenges Defamation Summoning Order

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena challenges a summoning order in a defamation case, prompting Special Court Judge Vishal Gogne to issue a notice to BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor. The case has been scheduled for hearing on October 7 by both the Special Court and the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena has challenged a summoning order issued in a defamation case. Following this, Special Court Judge Vishal Gogne on Monday delivered a notice to BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the complainant in the defamation case. The proceedings are slated for October 7, with concurrent hearings in both the Special Court and Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (ACMM) court.

Representing Atishi, Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta appeared with advocates Shailendra Singh and Mudit Jain. The defamation complaint led to a summons issued to Atishi by the Magistrate at Rouse Avenue Court on May 28. Upon her physical appearance in court on July 23, bail was granted to the AAP leader.

BJP leader Kapoor sent Atishi a legal notice claiming she falsely stated during an April 2 press conference that the BJP tried to lure her into joining the party or face arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. Kapoor argued that Atishi’s remarks were defamatory and intended to harm the party’s reputation. Atishi has maintained that her statements are truthful and stood by her allegations.

At a press conference, Atishi accused the BJP of using central agencies to intimidate AAP leaders. She alleged additional leaders such as Raghav Chadha and Saurabh Bharadwaj might be targeted next. She reaffirmed her commitment to resist these pressures, invoking her allegiance to Arvind Kejriwal's leadership and Bhagat Singh’s legacy.
