Swiss agro-chemicals giant Syngenta Group launched 'Cropwise AI' on Monday, positioning it as a breakthrough in advanced crop management practices.

The announcement was made at the prestigious World AgriTech Innovation Summit in London, indicating the significant interest in this new technology.

Currently accessible to select customers in the US and Brazil, with plans for European expansion, Cropwise AI merges Syngenta's rich agronomic expertise with state-of-the-art AI technology. According to the company, the system integrates over twenty years of weather data, soil information, and crop observations to provide natural language recommendations aimed at improving crop yields by up to 5 per cent.

Feroz Sheikh, Chief Information and Digital Officer at Syngenta Group, hailed the initiative as transformative, emphasizing that GenAI's power is now being harnessed to make data-driven decisions in agriculture. Sheikh's statement underscored the system's capabilities, which include seed recommendations via machine learning, predictive modelling for crop growth, and precision agriculture for optimal resource use. Upcoming features like computer vision for early pest detection and sustainability analytics to minimize carbon footprints were also highlighted.

While not yet available in India, Cropwise AI is under close scrutiny by agricultural experts in the region. They are particularly interested in how Syngenta might adapt this technology to address India's specific agricultural challenges as development progresses.
