Historic Tripartite Pact: Nepal, India & Bangladesh Unite for Power Trade

Nepal, India, and Bangladesh have inked a landmark agreement aimed at boosting regional cooperation through cross-border electricity trade, officials announced Thursday.
According to the deal, starting from June 15, Nepal will annually export surplus electricity to Bangladesh using Indian infrastructure until November 15. Initially, 40 MW of hydroelectricity will be transferred to Bangladesh, marking a significant step in regional energy cooperation.
The agreed rate is 6.4 cents per unit, enabling Nepal to earn an annual revenue of approximately USD 9.2 million. The signing event in Kathmandu included prominent figures like NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising and representatives from NTPC Vidyut Byapar Nigam and Bangladesh Power Development Board.
