The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 7 crore enrolments, according to the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). This landmark achievement comes in the scheme's 10th year since its launch in 2015.

Introduced on May 9, 2015, the APY aims to establish a universal social security system in India, particularly benefiting the poor, underprivileged, and workers in the unorganized sector. In the current financial year of 2024-25 alone, over 56 lakh new members have enrolled in the scheme.

The success of reaching the most vulnerable sections of society with pension coverage is credited to the relentless efforts of banks and State Level Bankers' Committees (SLBCs), according to a statement from the PFRDA.
