Internship Opportunities Surge Under PM's Scheme

The Prime Minister's Internship Scheme has seen internship positions triple within three days, now totaling nearly 50,000, ahead of applicant portal opening on October 12, 2024. Key companies across 22 sectors are participating, offering internships in various fields across India's 36 states and UTs.

In a significant development, the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme has witnessed a substantial increase in internship opportunities, with the number rising more than threefold in just three days, sources informed ANI. The initiative is designed to provide one crore youth with internships in the top 500 companies over the forthcoming five years, offering numerous young people the chance to work with major corporations and gain industry insights.

By October 7, 2024, around 16,000 internship possibilities were accessible, which escalated to almost 50,000 by October 9, 2024, ahead of the portal's opening for applicants on October 12, 2024. The portal was initially activated on October 3, 2024, allowing companies to list available internships. On its inaugural day, 1,077 offers were posted by various companies, including Mahindra & Mahindra, Max Life, and Alembic Pharma.

Sources revealed that over 130 companies have listed internship positions, comprising prominent private sector participants such as Jubilant FoodWorks, Eicher Motors Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., and Tech Mahindra. These opportunities span 22 different sectors, with the Oil, Gas & Energy sector contributing the largest share, closely followed by Travel & Hospitality. Other sectors include Automotives, Banking and Financial Services, and Infrastructure & Construction. Internships are available in over 20 disciplines, including Operations Management, Production & Manufacturing, and Sales & Marketing. The opportunities are geographically spread across 650 districts, covering all 36 States and Union Territories.

On October 3, 2024, the government launched the pilot phase of this ambitious scheme. Officials from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs disclosed that the top 500 firms will provide 1.25 lakh internships during FY 2024-25. Announced in the 2024-25 Budget, the scheme aims to offer internships to one crore youth over the next five years.
