In a significant development for India's defense sector, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi announced on Tuesday that 85% of the army's acquisitions are now indigenous. This marks a major milestone towards self-reliance in defense production, a key aspect of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a technologically advanced and self-sufficient 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.

General Dwivedi emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Indian industry, stating that the army is focusing on upgrading existing equipment and platforms with domestic support. Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), a notable success in this endeavor, has impressively clocked 40,000 hours of flight time over the past two years, reflecting the army's dedication to indigenous development.

The Union Budget 2025-26 underscores this commitment, allocating Rs 6,81,210.27 crore for the Ministry of Defence, marking a 9.53% increase from the previous year. A significant portion is designated for procurement from domestic sources, further encouraging private sector participation to bolster the country's defense capabilities.
