The esteemed Akashdeep Award for 2025, presented by Amar Ujala, is set to honor distinguished Hindi short-story writer Mamta Kalia and renowned Manipuri author Arambam Ongbi Memchoubi for their significant literary contributions. This recognition gains special emphasis as 2025 marks the International Women's Year's Golden Jubilee, bringing light to women's roles in the literary domain.
Arambam Ongbi Memchoubi, born on January 1, 1957, has made impactful strides in Manipuri literature through her exploration of postcolonial themes and women's identities. Mamta Kalia, whose literary journey began amid the early feminist movements, is celebrated for her portrayal of middle-class complexities and women's struggles.
The ceremony, set to occur later this year, is also a platform to honor other prominent works, including Savita Singh's poetry and Naish Hasan's non-fiction. A distinguished jury assessed these awards, reinforcing Amar Ujala's commitment to Indian literary excellence since the inception of 'Shabd Samman' in 2018.
