The controversy over MF Husain's paintings, accused of offending religious sentiments, has escalated as the complainant moves to the Sessions court. This follows the Patiala House Court's refusal on January 23 to register an FIR, citing no need for further investigation into the matter.
Additional Sessions Judge Sumit Dass has provided the respondents, including the Delhi Art Gallery, additional time to respond. The next hearing is scheduled for March 3, as deliberations over the legitimacy of the petition continue.
The Magistrate court had earlier determined that sufficient evidence existed on record, including CCTV footage and the artist's work. Consequently, the need for new investigations was deemed unnecessary. The case gained traction after complainant Amita Sachdeva claimed that key artworks were mysteriously removed from the gallery during an investigative visit.
