Record-Breaking Devotee Turnout at Mahakumbh Mela as Cleanliness Drive Makes Waves

Over 7.9 million devotees took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam during the Mahakumbh Mela, with significant efforts in cleanliness led by 300 workers aiming for a Guinness World Record. Meanwhile, authorities focus on traffic management as large crowds gather in Varanasi and Prayagraj.

A staggering 7.9 million devotees have already taken the sacred plunge at the Triveni Sangam, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati meet, as per official data released by the Uttar Pradesh government. The 2025 Mahakumbh Mela witnessed the presence of over 200,000 Kalpavasis and significantly more worshippers.

On February 14, over 400 thousand people used 140 trains to travel, with cumulative figures showing 491.4 million devotees have participated in the ritual since the Mahakumbh Mela commenced. Friday saw a concerted cleanliness effort at the Triveni Sangam, where 300 workers aimed to create a Guinness world record by cleaning the ghats with nets.

According to OSD Kumbh Akansha Rana, this initiative serves not just the event but underlines the broader message of ensuring cleanliness of water bodies. Amid the event's fervor, strict traffic management protocols have been put in place by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, ensuring accountability of officers in managing the crowds effectively.
