Mysterious Poultry Disease Leaves 2,500 Chickens Dead in Wanaparthy

A 'mysterious disease' has led to the death of around 2,500 chickens in Konnur, Wanaparthy. Authorities are investigating the outbreak, with samples sent for testing. Dr Satya Kumari reassures that the bird flu is under control with strict measures in place.

In a disturbing development, an outbreak of an unidentified disease has resulted in the death of approximately 2,500 chickens over three days in the poultry farms of Konnur, Madanapuram mandal, Wanaparthy district, officials reported on Friday.

District Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Officer K Venkateshwar confirmed the sudden epidemic, stating that a comprehensive investigation is underway to unveil the cause. "The mysterious illness has devastated poultry farms, leading to significant losses in a matter of days," Venkateshwar noted, adding that samples have been expedited for lab analysis.

The fatalities occurred sequentially over three days, with 117 deaths on February 16th, escalating to 300 on February 17th, and the remaining by February 18th at the farm owned by Shivakehavulu. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government is vigorously enforcing containment protocols to stave off a potential bird flu escalation, assuring the public through Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu that there is no imminent threat.
