Sambhal Violence: Massive Chargesheet Filed in Mosque Unrest Cases

In a significant development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh police has filed a comprehensive 4,000-page chargesheet across six of the twelve recorded cases related to the November 24 violence in Sambhal. The incident, which erupted during an examination of a Mughal-era mosque by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), led to the tragic deaths of four individuals and left several more injured, including local residents and officials.

The SIT's chargesheet reveals that 80 arrests have been made, with 79 suspects still at large, amid a total of 159 accused. The investigation has uncovered that the arms recovered from the scene were manufactured in countries including the United Kingdom, USA, Germany, and Czechoslovakia, highlighting the grave nature and potential international links of the unrest.

Sambhal's Superintendent of Police, Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, confirmed, "A total of 12 cases have been registered following the violence on November 26, 2024. We have filed chargesheets for six cases so far." Notably, an attempt was made to incinerate both a station in-charge's personal motorcycle and a government vehicle. While the motorcycle was saved, the official car was completely destroyed, leading to charges against 23 individuals. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya praised the police's swift actions, commending their efforts after the SIT filed its chargesheets.
