Rajnath Singh Emphasizes Unconventional Threats at Indian Coast Guard Ceremony

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed new technological threats at the Indian Coast Guard Investiture Ceremony, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against cyber-attacks and data breaches. Singh awarded 32 service medals, highlighting ICG's significant achievements and ongoing efforts to enhance India's maritime security through increased funding and equipment modernization.

During the Indian Coast Guard Investiture Ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored the growing unconventional threats in Indian waters. With rapid technological advancements, Singh urged the marine forces, especially the ICG, to remain vigilant against cyber-attacks, data breaches, signal jamming, radar disruption, and GPS spoofing, in addition to traditional threats.

In recognition of their exemplary service and dedication, Singh awarded a total of 32 medals, including six President's Tatrakshak Medals for Distinguished Service, 11 Tatrakshak Medals for Gallantry, and 15 Tatrakshak Medals for Meritorious Service, covering the years 2022, 2023, and 2024. He lauded the personnel for maintaining coastal security and highlighted the transformative growth of the ICG into a globally trusted marine force.

Singh noted India's strategic vulnerabilities due to its vast coastline and identified challenges such as piracy, terrorism, and infiltration, which the ICG is tasked to counter. Over the past year, the ICG has marked notable achievements, including seizing drugs worth Rs 37,000 crore, apprehending 115 pirates, and conducting numerous rescue operations. Emphasizing the government's commitment, Singh announced an increased budget of Rs 9,676.70 crore for 2025-26 to modernize the ICG.
