In a significant announcement, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita would be the recipient of the distinguished 'Assam Vaibhav Award,' the state's highest civilian honor. The award ceremony is scheduled for March 30, with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharaya set to confer the accolade.

During a press conference, CM Sarma confirmed that the Assam Cabinet finalized the 2024 State Civilian Award recipients' list. Lt Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, a retired officer, will receive the Assam Vaibhav Award. Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated infrastructural enhancements in Guwahati, including the Radha Govinda Barua and Dr Bhupen Hazarika paths, facilitating improved urban connectivity.

The new Dr Bhupen Hazarika road, spanning 7.39 kilometers, connects the Barsapara Cricket Stadium to National Highway-27. According to CM Sarma, this road provides alternate access to NH-27, aiding the movement between key areas including Barsapara Stadium and Kalapahar. These developments are anticipated to ease traffic during cricket events at Barsapara Stadium, offering commuters a more streamlined travel route.
