The body of Anil Thomas Gabriel Pereira, a 42-year-old native of Thumba, Kerala, who was fatally shot at the Jordan-Israel border, was repatriated and laid to rest in his hometown. The somber occasion saw family and friends gather at St. John the Baptist Church to bid their final goodbyes.
Pereira's tragic death occurred on February 10 when Jordanian soldiers reportedly opened fire as he attempted to cross the border into Israel on a tourist visa. Accompanying him was Edison, 43, who sustained a leg injury from the same incident. Pereira's family is now seeking financial support from Indian authorities.
According to the Indian Embassy, the incident involved four individuals stopped by Jordanian forces in the Karak region. Pereira was shot in the head, resulting in instant death, while Edison survived a gunshot wound. Communication with Pereira had been minimal after his departure on February 5, leaving the family desperate for more information about the tragic events.
