Sitharaman Criticizes DMK's Opposition to Three-Language Policy

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sharply criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Parliament for its stance against the three-language policy. She accused the DMK of creating a political mess in Tamil Nadu and denying children their right to learn multiple languages, as prescribed by the New Education Policy (NEP).

Sitharaman defended Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who had previously referred to DMK's protest as 'uncivilised.' She recounted her personal experience in Tamil Nadu, claiming that learning Hindi and Sanskrit can lead to being targeted in the state.

Amid Sitharaman's statements, the INDIA bloc staged a walk-out from the session. Congress MPs criticized her for painting Tamil Nadu in a negative light, following similar complaints against other Union ministers. Opposition parties condemned Sitharaman's remarks, urging for an end to state 'insults' in the House.
