The Rajya Sabha session witnessed significant turbulence, leading to its adjournment until Monday, March 17, at 11:00 AM, following the Holi break. The uproar stemmed from Leader of Opposition and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's contentious remarks during a heated exchange on the floor.
Kharge's comments came in the context of a debate with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over language policy, specifically addressing criticisms toward the Tamil Nadu government's language stance. Kharge's 'thokenge' remark, in particular, drew sharp reactions from the BJP, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda demanding an apology and seeking expulsion of the statement from parliamentary records.
Expressing his regret, Kharge clarified that his remarks were directed at the government's policies, not the Chair. Meanwhile, Minister Pradhan defended the national stance on education and language, asserting commitment to linguistic diversity and warning against divisive language politics attributed to the opposition.
