In a groundbreaking move, Andhra Pradesh IT & HRD Minister, Nara Lokesh, has announced a new initiative titled 'No Bag Day'. This will take place every Saturday starting the next academic year for students in classes 1-10. The effort is designed to lessen the academic burden on students while providing a mix of extracurricular activities to nurture holistic development.
The initiative includes a variety of interactive activities such as quizzes, vocational training, seminars, debates, and sports competitions. These activities are meant to spark creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking among students. By integrating vocational training and fine arts into the curriculum, the focus shifts from rote learning to skill-based experiential learning, in line with Lokesh's goal of setting a national benchmark for Andhra's government schools under the 'Andhra Model Education' initiative.
This new scheme will also involve short assessments every 'No Bag Day' to reinforce weekly lessons. Club activities and English enhancement courses, including Spell Bee competitions, will be scheduled to boost students' skills. Creative Expression slots will host drawing, clay modeling, and gardening sessions to foster artistic talents. Additionally, performing arts and value-based education will be part of the curriculum. The initiative seeks to correct issues from previous administrations that led to significant dropout rates among students.
