The Centre has abruptly ended the tenure of Rameshwar Prasad Gupta as chairman and managing director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). His services were terminated well ahead of schedule, sparking curiosity and speculation about the reasons behind this decision.
In Gupta's stead, New and Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi has been appointed with temporary charge of the CMD position. An official order confirmed this transition, underscoring that Sarangi's tenure will last until a permanent replacement is appointed or further notice.
Gupta, a 1987-batch Gujarat-cadre former IAS officer, began his role at SECI in June 2023 after serving as secretary in the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. SECI, a prominent public sector undertaking, plays a critical role in expanding India's renewable energy capacity.
