Public sector undertaking Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Ltd (HURL) recently announced that its managing director, Siba Prasad Mohanty, is set to take on a pivotal new role as the first-ever managing director of the Assam Valley Fertiliser and Chemical Company Ltd (AVFCCL).
This new entity represents a collaboration between the Assam government, Oil India, National Fertilisers Ltd (NFL), HURL, and Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corp Ltd (BVFCL). The move highlights Dr. Mohanty's outstanding leadership within the fertiliser sector, a significant nod to his contributions in advancing India's agro-industry.
Plans for the AVFCCL include the development of a brownfield ammonia-urea plant in Namrup, Dibrugarh district. This facility is the only urea-producing site in eastern India, originally part of Hindustan Fertiliser Corp Ltd. The initiative aligns with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's earlier budget announcement for a new urea facility in the region.
