Monsoon Chaos: Himachal Pradesh Battles Nature's Fury

Himachal Pradesh faces severe monsoon devastation, accounting for 263 deaths since June 20. Significant infrastructural damage includes blocked roads and disrupted power and water supply, with losses estimated at Rs 2,173 crore. Continuous efforts for restoration are hampered by ongoing landslides and flash floods.

The ongoing monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has resulted in devastating consequences, with 263 reported fatalities since June 20, according to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA). Per the report, 136 casualties arose from rain-induced incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and electrocutions, while 127 road accident-related deaths were documented.

Infrastructural damages are broad-ranging, affecting over 31,000 houses, shops, and labor huts. A staggering 2,201 roads remain blocked, 2,550 water supply schemes disrupted, and 1,145 power lines down. The damages, including an overwhelming Rs 2,173 crore to public property and significant losses to animal husbandry, mark this as one of the most destructive monsoons in recent times.

Heavy rains continue to impact the state, with further risks of landslides and flash floods. Efforts for restoration are underway, yet severely challenged by the persistent adverse weather conditions, affecting efforts to resume essential services. Authorities remain on high alert, anticipating ongoing natural disruptions.
